"You asked me once," said O'Brien, "what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world... Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I don't care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me!"
In this passage, O'Brian is explaining what is Room 101. It's a torture room that everyone knows is bad. The next quote is Winstons betraying Julia after being confronted with Room 101.
Seeing through a psychoanalytic lens, similar to Jung's Room 101 is the Beast. It a terrible place that will hurt and torture one. People are scared of Room 101 and do not want to be in there. A beast is generally something we want to stay away from and if we get close we will get hurt.
The whole Ministry of Love is the Underworld a place of complete misery and despair. Even though the Ministry isn't literally under the world, it still has the negative connotation the is usually applied to the underworld. Instead of a place where dead souls live in, it's a place where the spirit of people dies.
The archetype of Winston is the Rebel. He tries to break the rules of the Party and want to change the restricted nature of the party. However, his dive through the underworld he betrayed Julia instead of standing for his beliefs. The greatest fear of the Rebel being powerless and it turns out Winstons spirit breaks once he loses power in his rebellion.
